Ada and Anthony’s Art Exhibition

The Esplanade, a boulevard in Singapore’s heart, has the nickname “The Durian Shell” because of its roof architecture resembling that of the durian fruit. Having established itself as a first-class performance center in Singapore, many international performances and events are held here, including concerts by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the classic musical Les Miserables, and many more!

Ada Shi, 11, and Anthony Shi, 8, will hold a solo exhibition called “Empowering The Artist In You” here in Esplanade. This art exhibition, curated by HiArt, presents a total of 72 works by the two siblings. Having studied at HiArt for more than three years, the sisters and brothers have been able to communicate their inner worlds through their works of art. Their paintings provide a window into the creative world and inner worlds of the upcoming generation of children.

There is no admission charge to the exhibition and all works are for sale. An organization that supports children will receive all proceeds from the auction.

Ada's Everyday Object and Transformation

This is Ada’s own vision. During her childhood, she enjoyed playing with kaleidoscopes, and the vivid colours and graphic details inside were a source of endless amusement. It is evident in her work that she has a fascination for colours. Learning to draw opens up a whole new world for Ada. Geometric figures, unique compositions, and a broad range of bright colours combine to create an abstract aesthetic. By combining different abstract perspectives for expressing objects in her work, she conveys her spiritual world in a kaleidoscope-like manner. Children’s ability to think independently is stimulated by creation, not just the accumulation of colours. They are encouraged to incorporate their own opinions in creating their own art. Ada’s artwork conveys the aesthetics of her own perspective on life. Additionally, it embodies her artistic vision, as well as her thoughts – simplicity and purity.

Anthony's AGW Adventure

This is Anthony Shi, a third grader. He has always enjoyed watching animation and hearing stories as a child, and has a strong affinity for painting. He has a knack for telling stories through his art.

While Ada’s works are based more on observations of daily life, his younger brother Anthony’s are infused with diverse cultures, folklore, and popular culture. His observations and understanding of painting improved, and his creative thinking was stimulated by art.

Anthony independently created the AGW’S Adventure storybook in 2020. The adventure stories of the three characters he created are told in a childlike way. The development of creativity can inspire children to observe the world from different perspectives and improve their empathy and thinking skills.

The mission of HiArt, a first-class children’s art school in Singapore, is to encourage children’s artistic awareness. HiArt’s classes will introduce children to basic painting techniques while also tailoring courses according to their different development stages and ages. Children who are learning creative skills and methods are also being taught responsibility and moral growth by their teachers. They were equally excited and enthused about the charity exhibition. The pair hope to spread positivity and inspire others through their artwork. A small act of kindness can make a big difference. The Singapore Children’s Association will receive all proceeds from this exhibition to support children, youth and families in need.
