Cardboard / Mixed Mediums [2021]

Recently, Lingxi watched a documentary about Latin America in which the look of slums left a deep impression on her. To kickstart, she decided to use discarded cardboard as the main material for the work. It is not only environmental friendly it also a good way to show the poor and dilapidated slum conditions. She also chose bright red and dark brown to paint the exterior of the piece because it shows the unfinished brick and wooden walls. The ladders on the walls are for people to climb and he ropes on the platform reflect a trace of life in hardships. It lets us know that the people living here albeit difficulty and carry a tenacious attitude in life.
